Mad Hatter - Based on the famous Mad Hatter from the classic Lewis Carroll book - "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland".
I have taken Artistic License with creating him, and as such, I have created a slightly psychedelic version of him - that of a rather Happy-go-Lucky Gentleman, one that loves a good riddle, and also a drop or two of the 'old laudanum'!! - Although, from history, it has been recorded that many a Hat Maker from that era went slightly "potty", due to the formaldehyde used in the felting process of the hat making ....
This splendid and eccentric Gentleman is one of my favourite characters from this gorgeous story. A story that has been with me since my childhood (and that is far too many summers back to remember how many???). I still have my childhood book, a little tattered and torn now, but it has stood the test of time. (It was my mother's before me, and now my own grand-daughter's have their eyes on it!!
This version was printed in 1929, so it was given to my mother when she was only 2!!).
Entirely hand knitted and hand sewn (by me).
The body is knitted in a Cotton/Acrylic blend (60/40 mix).
The body is stuffed with (new) acrylic fibre fill.
The eyes are hand-painted beads and are hand-stitched on.
All his clothes are entirely hand knitted, using mostly acrylic fibre.
His buttons are an eclectic mix of new and vintage.
His hair is a wool/acrylic blend - entirely hand-knotted onto his head, strand by strand (again, by Me).
PLEASE NOTE....
Hatter has been lovingly made, by Me, and has taken more than two weeks to finish.
This doll is not a toy - I have created Mad Hatter as a soft sculpture/Art Doll.
He is not intended for young children and will not withstand rough play - Although I have been very fussy with sewing on his buttons and his eyes, they still could present as a choking hazard.
However - Hatter would be a wonderful friend to have sitting with you in your "Good Room", or your "Thinking Room" - but be warned, he never shuts up!!!
Size: Sitting = 17 inches (434 cm)
Full length (stretched out flat, from top of hat to base of shoes) = 27 inches (69 cm)
