Some colour combinations are easy sells. This one wasn't.
When I fell in love with the Lato pattern (designed by Johanna Huck), the geometric bands demanded a bold colour story to do them justice. I landed on rust, cobalt, blue-green, and a flecked pebble grey from Fiber Lily's gorgeous range — four colours that don't look like they'd work together on paper. I trusted my eye anyway.
A few colour swaps and a lot of hours later, the finished shawl proved the point: those four shades come together in a way that's hard to picture until you see them worked up in the geometric bands and wave-stitch sections this pattern calls for.
Crocheted in Fiber Lily's Super Soft Sock (75% merino, 25% nylon), this shawl has a fine, structured drape with excellent stitch definition. The wool content gives it warmth and a soft hand, while the nylon adds durability and a little extra resilience to the stitches. The geometric bands hold their shape beautifully, while the more open wave-stitch sections add lightness and movement — substantial enough to wrap up in on a cool day, without the bulk of a heavier yarn.
