This board was custom-made to fit a recess in a granite benchtop. End grain cutting boards are very kindly on good knives compared with normal boards and require far more work to produce. The timbers used here are cypress, merbau, and the lighter colour timber is white cedar. Finished and sanded to 1200 grit, they are then wiped over with a food safe oil, in this case grapeseed. The average end grain board is usually 300 to 350 mm square, and around 35 mm in thickness. Most of the boards I make are bespoke. Size and timbers used can be discussed with the customer, whatever is decided will affect the final cost and weight and therefore price, including the price of postage and a firm cost will be given and agreed to before commencing work. The average board as mentioned above, would work out around $160 - $200 with postage extra.
