Meet Candy
one of the whimsical characters from my Elves at Work and Play collection.
This cutie is Candy from Dairy Delights, she has the scoop on all things sweet.
Designed by me in my little studio nestled beneath the trees in Melbourne, Candy is lovingly handmade from fine porcelain. Every piece is created slowly and thoughtfully, because all good things take time.
Each elf begins as liquid clay, carefully poured into a seven-piece handmade slip-casting mould. Once the pieces are formed, they are joined together at the head and neck, and that’s where the real magic begins. I hand-sculpt the finer details to give each elf its own unique personality, then lovingly hand-paint every feature. To complete the finishing touches, I add a delicate sparkle of 22-karat gold for a little extra festive charm.
Creating Candy involves three separate firings in my electric kiln, which is powered by solar energy as part of my commitment to more sustainable studio practices.
As I make each little treasure, I imagine the stories that will be told when families gather around the Christmas tree year after year. .
