This Broad Ballpoint Pen has been handcrafted in my workshop at Welcome Creek, Queensland, using Spalted Walnut timber.
Each pen blank is carefully turned on the lathe, sanded smooth, and polished to reveal the natural grain of the wood.
No two pens are ever identical.
Spalted Walnut
Spalted Walnut is a highly prized timber known for its dramatic natural patterns and rich colour variation. The spalting process occurs naturally when fungi create dark lines and contrasting tones within the wood, producing unique and often striking patterns.
The timber typically displays warm brown tones with darker streaks and intricate figuring, making every piece visually distinctive. When polished, Spalted Walnut reveals remarkable depth and contrast within the grain.
Because spalting occurs naturally, no two pieces are ever alike, ensuring each handcrafted pen is completely unique.
Durable Natural Finish
This Broad Ballpoint Pen - Spalted Walnut is finished with multiple coats of Aussie Oil friction polish, producing a durable high-gloss finish while still allowing the warmth of natural timber to be felt in the hand.
