Description
This unique intricate sculptural basket is handwoven using hundreds of dried longleaf pine needles which were cured in black tea, on top of a ceramic bowl, wheel thrown by myself, using black Scarva clay which has been bisque fired and then high fired to midfire temperatures for durability and strength. The texture of this raw clay body when fired, feels like charcoal to the touch. This basket is stitched together using only black sinew, into the shape of a ceramic bottle.
Although delicate, this basket has been sealed with lacquer for durability, and will make a beautiful centre piece on a kitchen or lounge room table.
Dimensions 25cm tall x 13cm diameter (9.8” tall x 5.1” diameter).
TIMEFRAME
7-8 weeks in the making and estimating a minimum of 70-80 hours of work to complete, just to give you an idea of how much time was involved in weaving this basket.
