There’s something really calming about working with clay. It’s that slow, meditative rhythm of kneading and shaping that I love—it feels like a quiet rebellion against the fast pace of everyday life and all the constant noise of technology. When I start a piece, I usually have an idea in mind, but the clay always has a way of leading me somewhere unexpected. It’s a bit like going on a creative adventure.
This particular vessel was inspired by Giorgio Morandi, the Italian painter known for his soft, peaceful still life works. I wanted to capture that same quiet, reflective feeling—something that offers a little pause in a busy world.
I made this piece using a hand-building technique called pinching, then burnished it carefully to give it that smooth, lustrous finish. It was then fired slowly in sawdust, a process that leaves behind rich carbon markings. The results can be beautifully unpredictable—sometimes even a bit wild! I added copper leaf to highlight those contrasts and bring out the soft beauty in the surface textures.
It’s a decorative vessel that invites curiosity—definitely a conversation starter.
