quatrefoil-brooch
Quatrefoil Brooch

This piece is a reproduction of a brooch that was worn, and lost in the city of Bruges, Belgium, at some point in the mid fourteenth century. It may have been attached to the outside of an outfit, or used to secure a shawl, scarf or collar.

The brooch consists of a delicate quatrefoil (four leafed) frame with a beaded pin. The quatrefoil is an extremely common stylistic motif, found in jewellery, art, and architecture, with its use spanning centuries and continents. Understated and elegant, this piece surely catches the eye today just as it did centuries ago.

The piece is a lost wax casting in jewellery-grade ancient bronze (copper and tin only), from a hand-sculpted master mould. We create our masters based on detailed study of archaeological items, then cast and hand-finish each piece in Sydney.

The overall dimensions of the frame are 32 x 29 x 1.5mm, while the integral bead on the pin is 6mm thick.

Bronze jewellery can be left to develop a natural patina with use, or polished regularly to retain the shine of a new piece.
