At this stage the pit is still fairly soft. It takes 4 to 5 days for the slices to dry and become very hard. I can then drill the holes, give them a good sanding and finally rub them with oil for protection and to bring out the beautiful colours.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe buttons are very hardy and great for bags and pouches, journal covers, embellishments and other decorative purposes. Not so practical for clothes as the buttons soften in a washing cycle and take a long time to dry.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eNo two buttons are the same, they all have this \"organic\" look with lots of character.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI made the drawstring pouches with my hand dyed fabrics and added a stenciled motif.
