I wanted to create an occasion bag that looked special without forcing you to choose between your phone and everything else you actually need.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eDespite its compact silhouette, Cocoon comfortably holds a \u003cstrong\u003emobile phone, glasses in their case, AirPods, car keys and lipstick\u003c\/strong\u003e, with room to spare for a few other small essentials. It’s a practical alternative to the tiny evening and occasion bags that can look beautiful but simply aren’t big enough for real life.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCocoon has been handcrafted by me on the Far South Coast of NSW using \u003cstrong\u003ehand-painted recycled sari silk ribbon\u003c\/strong\u003e, with a \u003cstrong\u003e100% silk lining\u003c\/strong\u003e. The wonderfully soft, tactile and beautifully imperfect nature of the silk inspired the organic shape that gave this bag its name.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eRather than trying to make the recycled silk behave like a perfectly uniform yarn, I wanted its character to remain visible. Variations in colour and texture, small knots, joins and occasional loose fibres are all part of this very special material. No two lengths of recycled sari silk are quite the same, which means no two Cocoon bags can ever be exactly alike.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe bag is crocheted entirely by hand, with the stitches deliberately worked to give the bag structure without losing the softness and movement of the silk. Seams, knots, variations in thickness, colour changes and loose or frayed fibres are inherent characteristics of the recycled material rather than imperfections.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOver time and with use, occasional silk threads or fibres may work their way free. This is completely natural. They can simply be left as part of the bag’s character or, if preferred, \u003cstrong\u003ecarefully trimmed with small sharp scissors\u003c\/strong\u003e. Please do not pull loose threads, as this may disturb the surrounding stitches.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eCare\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCocoon is a delicate handcrafted piece and should be treated accordingly.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSpot clean only where possible using a clean, soft cloth and cool water. Do not machine wash, tumble dry, wring, twist or soak. Avoid harsh detergents, bleach and stain removers.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIf the bag becomes substantially soiled, I recommend consulting a professional cleaner experienced with delicate silk textiles rather than washing the complete bag.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAllow the bag to dry naturally away from direct sunlight and heat. I experimented with the base, stitch and shaping until the recycled silk found the form that suited it.
