A large 'chunk' of stone is sliced into slabs using a lapidary slab saw. If the slice is of a specific size and has a lot of a beautiful colour and\/or pattern, we will prepare it to become a coaster or a clock, larger and thicker slices generally become clocks because extra thickness is needed for the clock movement and spoke.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe slab is then ground on a vibrating flat lap, with varying grits as required, to remove saw marks and prepare the surface for polishing. It is then returned to the flat lap for polishing. Each phase in the flat lap takes about a week. A hole is then drilled through the center of the slab for the clock movement, number positions are marked using a Dremel drill and painted for clarity.
