Recycling in the Breeze

Old surf kites, new life. Hi, I’m Richard, the maker behind Recycling in the Breeze. From my workshop in Torquay, I turn retired surf kites and wind wings into tough, lightweight duffle bags for the beach, the gym and nights away.

It started with my own mission to cut back on soft plastic and throwaway items, and grew into a way to rescue ripstop nylon from kites that can no longer fly. Ripstop is built to handle wind and salt, so it makes bags that cope with whatever you throw at them.

Every bag is handmade, so no two are the same. Colours and patterns vary, and each one is perfectly imperfect. You’re buying a bag with a story, made locally from material that would otherwise have gone to landfill.

All photos show the real bag, with no AI images. As a keen cyclist, I’m also working on bike packs, coming soon.

Description

Once a surf kite, now a duffle. This bag is handmade from a 2016 F-One Bandit 6m kite, salvaged ripstop nylon that would otherwise have gone to landfill. The turquoise, silver and white are what you get when a kite is given a second life.

It’s light, tough and easy to carry, with bright orange webbing handles and a wide main opening with double chunky zips, so it’s easy to pack and unpack. It suits the beach, the gym or a night away.
