About KAH Cards etc.

KAH Cards etc. started off as a hobby, and after lots of encouragement from family and friends I decided to start selling as a side project! All the cards and tags are prints of hand drawn designs, and I draw the mandalas free hand and to scale.

Sustainability is really important to me so all my cards and tags are printed in small batches on 100% post-consumer recycled card by the amazing Sustainable Printing Co. (read more below on sustainability).

Please feel free to reach out if you're interested in a custom order - I'd love to work with you to bring your idea to life!

𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿
I get all my cards and tags printed on 100% post-consumer recycled card, and the envelopes I provide are also made of 100% post-consumer recycled paper.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿?
Post-consumer recycled paper is made of materials that have already been used at least once and have been recycled. This is as opposed to recycling paper that never made it out of the paper mill (such as offcuts) or using virgin paper.
Virgin paper does not contain any recycled material and is usually made of wood from either a tree plantation (which may be certified as 'sustainable') or a virgin forest.
Harvesting virgin forests destroys the biodiverse environment they contain, including habitats of animals and birds, the process of which often removes many different species.
Forests are often replaced with tree plantations, and forests are sometimes even harvested to make space for plantations.

Using recycled paper comes with many benefits compared to virgin paper including:
- No trees required
- Uses less energy
- Less greenhouse gases released from production
- Uses less water
- Produces less solid waste
- Saves paper from landfill where it would decompose and release methane gas

The paper the cards and tags are printed on is made of 100% post-consumer recycled paper, which has all the benefits mentioned earlier.
It's also made carbon neutral and is element and process chlorine free. This reduces the amount of harmful waste produced by the paper making process.
The paper is also itself recyclable, meaning if someone decides not to keep the card or tag you've given them, they can recycle it again.

1) Just because a product says 'recycled' or 'FSC Certified' doesn't mean it's a particularly sustainable option - ALWAYS check what percent is recycled or certified. Sometimes products will contain a tiny fraction of recycled materials and say it's recycled, even though majority of it is not.
2) Paper being brown does not automatically mean it's recycled - always check the label.

Aside from using post-consumer recycled paper, I'm also doing other things to minimise the environmental impact of my business including:
- Providing string made of paper or natural materials that will biodegrade for the tags, rather than ribbons that can't be recycled
- Not covering cards in single use plastic
- Making as many sustainable choices as I can for the packaging I use to post orders
