About Gemtation Jewellery

My name is Carol Robinson, and I’m the face behind Gemtation Jewellery. I’ve been making sterling silver jewellery featuring natural gemstones for over 10 years but in the last few years I discovered my passion for creating jewellery from solid silver vintage cutlery.

I love to create something new and beautiful from something old and unappreciated – a solid silver jewellery piece that can be worn every day and loved for a second time rather than being left in a drawer, forgotten.

I started by creating Spoon rings which traditionally date back to 17th Century England when servants would steal silver spoons from their Masters' table and have them crafted into a ring for their betrothed. This romantic crime spread over time but in the mid 1800s spoon rings became less of a symbol of love & commitment and more about fashion. They gained momentum again in the 1960s / 1970s and continue to be popular today.

My spoon rings are finished with high attention to detail so they are comfortable to wear and as they are exclusively solid silver, represent beautiful heirloom pieces that can be enjoyed now and by future generations.

Apart from the classic spoon ring, my range includes earrings, bracelets, pendants and necklaces all created from various parts of the silverware. This includes the spoon bowls which I flatten, texture and cut into a diverse range of shapes and sizes to produce unique sterling silver jewellery pieces. Some pieces incorporate high grade natural gemstones, including amethyst, lapis lazuli, rainbow fluorite and baltic amber.
