Getting Paid

Getting Paid

How can I be paid for my orders on Madeit?

The buyer pays you directly, and you can accept payment with
• Stripe (*required): includes credit card payments, Google Wallet and Apple Pay
• PayPal, (including credit card payments if you have a Business PayPal account)
• Direct Debit

From 29th September 2020, all new sellers will need a Stripe account to sell on Madeit. Existing sellers will also be required to connect to a Stripe account if / when they want to save changes to the Payment Details page of their Madeit account, but can otherwise continue with PayPal Business. You can connect an existing Stripe account, or create a new one for free. Stripe, like PayPal, only charges you when you make a sale.

Sellers may choose to also offer PayPal and/or Direct Deposit, or just Stripe. Please note that Direct Deposit payments are only available to registered buyers within Australia.

Visit the Payment Details link in your My Madeit> Store Setup to set up your payment details, these details are automatically applied to all of your listings.

Can you explain PayPal?

PayPal is a secure and instant way of buyers paying for their order. Before being able to be paid by PayPal you need to set up a Business PayPal account on the PayPal website, visit www.paypal.com.au for more information.

Can I create a Stripe account if I am not a business?

Yes! Anyone can hold a Stripe account, so if you're not a registered business, just select Sole Trader as your business type when creating your Stripe account, set the account up in your own legal name rather than the name of your store, and leave the ABN/ACN fields blank.

Can I create / upgrade to a Business PayPal account if I am not a business?

Yes! If you're not a registered business, just select Sole Trader as your business type when creating or upgrading your PayPal account, set the account up in your own legal name rather than the name of your store, and leave the ABN field blank.

How do I upgrade my existing personal PayPal account to a Business PayPal account?

• log in to your PayPal account
• Click Settings at the top right corner of the page
• Click "Upgrade to a Business Account" under "Account Options"

Check out this blog post for step by step instructions on how to create or upgrade to a Business PayPal account

Do I need to send my Direct Deposit information to the buyer?

Direct Deposit is only available for register users in Australia. If your customer wants to pay with Direct Deposit, then they will need to register for a Madeit account.

You have the option to include your BSB and Account Details & instructions to the buyer on the Payment Details page.

This information will be available to the buyer on the cart confirm page, invoice and purchase email.

Please do not include your banking details anywhere else in your store setup, other than the Payment Instructions field on the Payment Details screen. This keeps your bank details private until purchase, and ensures buyers place their order before depositing funds into your account.

I don't want to store my BSB & Account Details, is there another option?

Yes, if you don't want to give this information to the buyer on checkout then you can include a message in the Direct Deposit field saying you will email them after checkout with your details.

Visit the Payment Details link in your My Madeit> Store Setup to set up your payment details

Do buyers need a Stripe account to pay by credit card?

No, Stripe accounts are for sellers, not buyers. Buyers will only need to enter their credit card details at checkout (or choose a card from their Google Wallet or use Apple Pay on compatible browsers) in order to pay you with Stripe.

Do buyers need a PayPal account to pay with PayPal?

To pay with PayPal, customers will need a PayPal account, unless you have a Business PayPal account, in which case customers can also use the PayPal checkout to pay with credit card.

Are direct deposit payments instant?

No, after checkout, customers who opted to pay by direct deposit will need to manually transfer money to you using the account details you provided at checkout (or via email). For your own protection, please do not ship orders paid this way until the funds have cleared in your bank account.

When will I get paid by Stripe?

Stripe payments are instant, so the money for orders paid with Stripe will be visible in your Stripe account immediately after checkout. In your Stripe dashboard, you can set a schedule for funds in your account to be transferred daily, weekly or monthly, or you can opt for manual payouts, which means the money is held in Stripe until you manually transfer the funds to your bank account. For new Stripe accounts, the first payout takes 7 days. After that, all payments will be included in the next payout (based on your schedule) 2 days after the payment is received. Clearance of Stripe payouts in your bank account will depend on your bank, but funds are usually available as soon as the payout is made. See here for more information on Stripe Payouts.

When will I get paid by PayPal?

PayPal payments are generally instant, so the money for orders paid with PayPal will be visible in your PayPal account immediately after checkout. Payouts from PayPal to your nominated bank account are manual, so you need to sign in to PayPal and transfer your balance to your bank account manually. Funds from a manual transfer can take up to 7 days to clear, depending on your bank.
