This pencil holder is made from figured Australian Blackbutt with each corner being reinforced with 2 Blackbutt 'splines'. These aren't structurally necessary on something as small and light duty as this pencil holder but they do add a nice contrast. Each pencil holder is hand made right here in Sydney, Australia.
Blackbutt timber is typically grown in the coastal regions of Queensland and New South Wales. Blackbutt, also known as Eucalyptus Pilularis, is a tall tree that often grows up to 40 metres in height. Blackbutt is a type of native hardwood that has straight and cylindrical trunks and it produces light timber that has straight, aesthetically pleasing gum veins.
- Each piece is carefully hand sanded prior to assembly and again post assembly to ensure a smooth finish.
- Finished with 4 coats of premium Danish Oil and a top coat of polyurethane with hand sanding between coats resulting in very protective, but also very smooth, medium sheen.
- This length of Blackbutt is mildly figured with ambrosia beetle marks, pin holes and squiggly worm marks which are all typical and natural occurrences in Australian Blackbutt.
NOTE: Colours can vary between computer screens and the product may have a slightly different colour from what you see on screen. As these are handmade items, each one will have some variation in colour and wood grain.
