A super cute terracotta clay bowl. It has been underglazed on the inside with white then a handpainted bird has been painted on top. A gorgeous greeny blue bird with its long legs dangling over the side of the bowl. 12cm across the opening by 7.5cm high. ... Hand thrown ( read back story below), trimmed, dried, handpainted with underglaze, coated in a clear food safe glaze then fired in my kiln. This bowl has imperfections and flaws (like me) but it is totally unique, one of a kind and would make a great quirky gift... perfectly imperfect

Back story:
Several years ago, I was lucky enough to stumble upon a pottery wheel at my local recycle centre. I have always been a hand builder with clay but bought it home anyway and stored it in my studio. Fast Forward to crazy isolation times and I pulled the wheel out, dusted it off and started her up. I have been watched YouTube videos every day and also attended a throwing class but wow… it is difficult!!!! Anyhow, due to perseverance and my complete determination born out of stubbornness I set myself a challenge to throw 100 bowls. It has been said that in order to centre and throw the perfect bowl you just need to sit with ball upon ball of clay and just keep practising. I am also aware that each practice bowl should be cut in half to see where your wall strengths are!! Well, my sense of achievement in pulling that first little bowl was huge and there was no way I was cutting it in half!!! I just carried on throwing. Each bowl I have made so far is unique, wonky, totally ‘rough around the edges’, uncentred, uneven, badly trimmed, imperfect (aren’t we all?!) etc etc BUT they are quirky and still ‘bowl like’ I am also spending time hand decorating each bowl with mandalas, spots, patterns and general gorgeousness to try and keep the eye off the wonk!!! I am still learning, everyday. Glazing is a skill in itself. I think they would be perfect on a grazing board, to hold little bits, to eat ice cream out of or just to sit and be looked at! Thank you so much for reading. If you are considering buying one of my bowl, I thank you. You are purchasing a bit of me, my personal challenge, my art practise, and giving me the momentum to carry on.

All of my bowls are unique, wonky, useful and robust.

Can be picked up from Perth if you're a local :)

They are all fired to earthenware temps and glazed to a food safe finish. However, it is handmade and as such needs to be looked after. It can go in the dishwasher but it would rather be gently handwashed...also the microwave is a no-no!!!

Please be advised that items may differ slightly to the image depicted in this listing, as different devices and monitors portray images/colours differently. All of my items are handmade and as such slight variances will occur between each piece but it is what makes each piece unique.
