"Hook Turn" original acrylic prainting on paper

This piece is an original abstract prainting (a print/painting mix) created on quality paper using acrylic paints. I began the process on my Gelli plate (a soft, flexible gelatin-like surface). Working intuitively using various hand cut paper stencils I printed an abstract design onto a plain piece of paper. This step was repeated several times meaning the work is made up of many layers of paint all printed on top of each other. Then to finish the piece off I hand-painted sections to make part of the work stand out more. The final composition is abstract but as I created it images and stories emerged and to me, it looks like a turn you may take (in your car) in the city of Melbourne where they do what are called "Hook Turns". These are special turns where you go to the left side of an intersection and turn right, a bit crazy I know but it works. This artwork is one of a kind and was a joy to create.
