7.65ct Australian Andamooka Opal 14k gold fill wire wrapped

This is a lovely freeform piece piece of Andamooka Matrix opal weighing 7.65 ct. This stone has vivid gemmy pinfire rainbow colours against a dark background. It has a small patch of crystal in the middle that reflects different colours as it's moved. As with all opal, it is best viewed in direct light. It has been heat treated with sugar to darken the background. I have wire wrapped it in 14k gold filled wire and the finished pendant is 35 mm long. It comes on a free gold plated chain in an organza bag. A very different and beautiful rare gemstone, totally unique.

I source my opals from local miners, cut and polish most myself. It's often a messy thing to do requiring a lot of patience and persistence, and a glorious delight to find that colour within a stone.
