This beautiful vase has a black gloss and speckle finish with irregular circle design. It has a very texture finish and feel.
I made this rustic pot or vase by hand using the Japanese method called Kurinuki. The method involves carving out the inside of a solid ball of clay. It is both a sculptural and contemplative way to make pots.
To what use can you put this beautiful pot or vase to ? Can be used indoors and outdoors, great in the kitchen to hold dry goods (salt, pepper or spices or spoons), a vase for flowers, in the office to hold pens and brushes, in the bathroom to place your toothbrushes.
The practical bit about the pot:
• 8 cm x 8 cm in size and 0.4 cm thickness
• Made with Buff Raku Trachyte clay which gives a beautiful deep brown tone with speckles and finished with a black glossy glaze
• Not suitable to use with wet food but it does hold water
• Can be used indoors and outdoors
• Hand wash in warm soapy water, if dirty
• Made in Melbourne
This vase or pot is made in my home studio sourcing my clay and glaze from a Brunswick, Melbourne pottery studio. I also get my pieces fired in a kiln (best description is a very special very high temperature oven to cook clay!) twice at the same place. First to make the porcelain hard so that I can apply the glaze. The second firing fixes the design and turns the porcelain into these beautiful pieces.
