If you are a knitter, embroider, sewer or all round maker, just like me or know of someone who is, these three (3) handmade round buttons are just the thing! Not only are they functional but they will add a burst of colour to a dark item of clothing such as a jumper, dress, shirt or skirt. You could even sew one on and use it in place of a brooch.

The porcelain buttons are great for kid’s outfits, summer or winter, but equally suitable for any age. In fact, they are great as an embellishment to a piece of embroidery, to close cushions instead of a zip or add a personal touch to handmade toys (make great and unusual eyes for a teddy bear!).

Great buttons are so versatile. So when I started working with porcelain clay one of the first things I made were buttons so I could use them on my hand knitted jumpers. The plastic buttons were uninspiring and I thought there are not many clay or porcelain buttons available commercially so why not make them myself.

I also like the fact the buttons are not just colourful but they have a textured, the flower design is ever do slightly raised, so they have a nice feel to go with a handmade item you have made.

The buttons come nicely packaged so they are ready to give as a gift this Christmas..

All buttons are washable. So no need to remove from item of clothing when washing.

The practical bit about the 3 buttons:
• 2.5 cm in size and 0.2 cm thickness
• Two holes big enough to sew on with thread or wool
• Made with porcelain and flower design created with Japanese Tissue Transfer
• Made in Melbourne

I make these buttons, make the shape, in my home studio sourcing my clay and Japanese tissue transfer from a Brunswick, Melbourne pottery studio. I also get my pieces fired in a kiln (best description is a very special very high temperature oven to cook clay!) twice at the same place. First to make the porcelain hard so that I can apply the tissue transfer design. The second firing fixes the design and turns the porcelain into a beautiful piece it is.
