I was inspired to create this print by the story of a pigeon who prepared for new life in an unexpected place. Each day, this pigeon was seen flying down to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Australian War Memorial to collect poppies, carefully crafting a nest in the lead-up to Remembrance Day in an alcove above the stained-glass window of a wounded Australian soldier. The wounded soldier symbolises the defining quality of “endurance”, and the nest of poppies nearby is a poignant reminder of the powerful bond between man and beast on the battlefield.
I have created the print by hand carving a piece of lino, rolling ink onto the lino and hand printing the print onto the paper. I then hand coloured the poppies with watercolour.
Paper size approx: approximately 20cm x 20cm.
Your hand signed print will be one of only 100 created, each one slighty different which makes it unique.
The print is sold unmounted and unframed, but is just right to slot into a standard frame and mount.
