The Kon Tiki Expedition clutch bag - Thor Heyerdahl - Bag made from a book

This ornate, highly decorative book found hidden on the dusty shelves of a local charity shop has been re-purposed into a beautiful clutch handbag. It has a stunning gold filigree cover design that evokes images of islander life. It is a copy of Thor Heyerdahl's bestselling memoir of the Kon Tiki Expedition.

First published in 1948 in Norwegain and in English in 1950, it told the story of Heyerdahl's adventure sailing from South American to the Polynesian Islands on a raft made of traditional materials and technologies. The book was an instant success and has been reprinted numerous times, made into a movie, documentary and TV series.

It has a reinforced spine, is lined with a bright yellow fabric and closes with a magnetic clasp. Measuring 20.7 x 12.2 x 2.6 cm (8.14 x 4.8 x 1.02 in) it can carry your mobile phone and a few small personal items.

This one-of-a-kind, handmade item is the perfect accessory for any outfit and is sure to be a great conversation starter wherever you go. It would be a fabulous gift for the adventurer or sea-farer in your life or as a treat to yourself.
