Golfer, gardener, & origami artist, Marion: ‘All my artworks serve as a daily reminder so people know that they matter and they can achieve whatever it is that they’ve set out to do’

Hi, I’m Marion, the creator behind “Wish Upon A Wing”. My shop takes its name from the multi colour origami crane design of the same name. With a wish carried on its wing, it is a symbol of good luck and all things possible.

I fold very small paper cranes and incorporate them into joyful and meaningful designs. I hope to bring a bit of inspiration and serenity into your daily space.

I started my shop at Madeit in October 2019 and I like the Australian platform that supports small handmade sole operators.

Originally from Singapore, I have lived in Denmark, WA for over 25 years. I love the beautiful karri forest and seascape here on the south coast of Western Australia.

My studio is a spare room with a view to my garden that I call my “happy space”. In my creative space, I read, research, gather inspiration, and create with the Classic FM radio playing in the background. I have found my passion and I could not imagine doing anything else!

When I am not in my studio creating, I enjoy playing golf, arranging flowers, music and gardening.

Marion’s Paper crane mobile and one of her first miniature paper crane art works hanging in a public gallery: ‘I created an artwork using 100 small origami cranes and also made an origami mobile which is now in public collection.’

How did I come to do origami? I have always enjoy a variety of media like printmaking and painting, and a few years ago a friend asked me to do something in 3D for an event. I created an artwork using 100 small origami cranes and also made an origami mobile which is now in public collection. I haven’t stop since!

Packs of very bright fluro coloured origami papers from Japan

I buy my origami paper from a shop in Tokyo that has been supplying paper since 1653.

I found the act of folding very calming and the exquisite paper a pleasure to work with. I use 3cm-5cm square paper for my cranes. Each crane requires 24 folds, and they are folded using tweezers due to their size.

Everyone needs inspiration, and to be reminded of what we can achieve when we put our minds to it. That started my “Inspiration” series, featuring an inspirational quote with exquisite handmade cranes. The inspirational quotes and cranes inspire you each day to get up and go forth!
