For the love of stationery
Anyone who knows me well knows that I have three things I LOVE – anything floral, the colour pink, and stationery. When a product can include all three of those things then I don’t care how much it is, I need it… now! The reason I love stationery so much is because it enables me to start something fresh. I have a separate note book for everything, heaven forbid I put all the information for everything in one place. It keeps things categorised, plus it allows me to have a different personality for each book. Yes, you heard right. My great ideas notebook is bright and in-your-face with a colourful cover and neon lines inside.
And along with any new notebook, a personality-driven pencil case is also appreciated, because the project determines the resources needed. My design notepad partners with a pencil case filled with coloured pencils, but my work diary buddies up with a pencil case with lead pencils and pens and sharpies.
And oh, the lining! I can’t even count how many times I have bought something because I have fallen in love with the lining. Numerous jackets that have had the most beautiful or loud lining have been purchased, yes I know they are never seen, but it’s the fact that I know they are there and it’s those special little touches that really make the purchase of the product a need rather than a want.
I have always loved getting mail – I am referring to snail mail. I grew up on a farm and mail was only delivered 3 days each week and I remember the excitement every time I would walk to the mail box to check if there was anything with my name. Many, many years later, and a move to a city and then back to the country, I still get that buzz now. So when we did make our move away from my children’s friends, I vowed to create a space where my eldest could keep in touch with them. So that has involved lots of drawing and a heap of blank gift cards. Yes, we send video over Whatsapp and send voice messages along with photos via iPhone but the buzz for a letter or a card in the mail box always make me smile.
Do you have a stationery fetish as well? What is your must have item?
