Tell us a bit about your journey to becoming a handmade artist.
Some of my earliest memories are those of making 'stuff. An aunt introduced me to pottery in my early teens, and the joy of creating something from what felt like 'nothing' started a real passion in me.
I went to university where I was exposed to new materials and ways of thinking, and completed a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts.
What is your inspiration or where do you find inspiration?
I am inspired by story-telling, in all its forms; visual, written and performing arts are a constant in my life. I love colour and sparkly things. I hold my family and friends very close to my heart.
I try to find the sunshine even when it’s miserable (yes, I'm forever looking for silver linings) and I believe there is magic in every day.
Where did you learn your craft?
I am self taught with polymer clay (although there are some similarities to working with clay) I owe my knowledge of resin to my younger brother, he’s an absolute guru when it comes to all things moulding and casting. Along the way there’s been a LOT of trial and error, but at the same time, so much fun!
Why is handmade artistry so important to you?
Personally, I cannot overstate how important handmade is to me. My hands take the threads of my imagination and weave them into something that is tangible, in a way that (often) my words cannot. The world around me quietens, and I feel completely at ease.
I like to surround myself in my home with the work of other handmade artisans….to have their creations telling their stories.
